-Great day at Rock Bridge Calhoun yesterday! We kicked off a new series “You Asked For It” with a great message about understanding the will of God.

-Yes, we did ask people to send us a text during the service. Technology is becoming a powerful tool to help us connect people to Christ.

-Speaking of technology, we are NOW ON FACEBOOK. Check out the Rock Bridge Calhoun page on Facebook for the latest news and updates.

-Our Sunday night Student Ministry environment, “Sunday Night Live” or “SNL”, kicked off last night. We had a great group show up with tons of new students. I am pumped about the buzz in our student ministry right now. I believe God is up to some really cool stuff with our students. We’ve got some exciting doors opening in our school systems and this year is going to be amazing.

-I had lunch today with 10 men from our church and the devotion and prayer time was awesome. We meet for lunch once a month and I had such a great time today, we might do it more often!

-We had a great staff meeting in Calhoun with Kurt, our Student Ministry Pastor, in the office for his first week on the job. God has put together a great team to lead our campus and I am pumped to serve with them. Please pray for our staff.

It was great to see so many of you back from vacation and summer breaks. The crowd and energy in the service yesterday was exciting to be a part of. God is moving in our church and life-change is happening weekly!! Who is God asking you to invite to church this week? I hope to see them Sunday.

Sorry about the Hiatus!

It has been nearly 2 months since my last blog and I don’t have a cleaver excuse. There some cool stuff happening at Rock Bridge Calhoun and I want to take a few minutes to catch you up on what’s going on!

–We have been interviewing someone for the Calhoun Student Pastor position and we are close to making a decision.

–For the last several weeks, I have been looking at vacant buildings all over Gordon County to move our campus into. The High School has been a great home for us the last 2 years but we are praying for God’s timing to move into a building that we can call “home” for the next several years. If you know anyone who owns a vacant commercial building, please let me know.

–I had a great staff meeting this week with Donny, Stephanie, and Stephen. With vacations happening, we haven’t had a chance to connect in awhile. I love the staff God has put together to lead our campus and it is a privilege working with them. We all believe God is doing some great things in our church and in our community and we are praying for and expecting great things in the near future!

–Have a great 4th of July!! I hope to see you this Sunday.

Weekly Rundown 5.4.09

We had a great day in Calhoun this weekend. I love meeting so many new families each week. I had a couple of great conversations in the lobby with some people new to Rock Bridge Calhoun and they are fired up about getting involved.

One of the BEST messages I have heard this Sunday. If you haven’t listened to it, pick up a CD or go here to check it out. This message is a reminder that as Christ-followers’ we have the privilege and responsibility as image-bearers of God.

1st Wednesday this week in Calhoun. I look forward to eating some great food, hanging out with some great friends, and taking communion together. Join us Wednesday at 6pm at our offices downtown.

I have a couple of important meetings tomorrow and need your prayers. God is up to some cool stuff that will impact our future and I cannot wait to share with you what is going on.

I had a teenager send me a “friend request” on facebook tonight that reminded me that we need do EVERYTHING possible to reach our students!!!! She came to our Sunday night student ministry last year and got saved! After her dad learned what happened, she was not allowed to come back and I have not seen again. Here profile reads…”I’m a Christ-follower. He died for me so I’m going to live for Him!” THAT FIRES ME UP and it should fire you up too!!! Pray for our students and pray for our student ministry. We had a great year and I am pumped about what is going on in this ministry. I’ve got the BEST student ministry volunteer team on the planet!!! Thank you Jen, Laura, Scott, and Doug!

We have several people signed up to get baptized in a couple of weeks and when I shared that with one of my friends, who happens to be a committed member and volunteer, he said “this is why I set up and tear down every week”. His statement was a reminder that GOD IS DOING SOME AWESOME THINGS FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD and we have to do a better job of sharing the life-changing stories I get to hear about every week.

I cannot believe I get to do this job. I love my church! I love my community! I love my Pastor! I and love the volunteers who show up every week who make ministry happen!

What an amazing Easter at Rock Bridge Calhoun! I love our volunteers. Ministry simply would not happen on Sundays without you. You show up early to unload trailers and cases and turn a high school campus into the best portable church in America. You stay late when everyone else is headed to lunch, you serve in our amazing children’s ministry, you meet people in the parking lot and make them feel welcome before they ever set foot in our building, you sing or play an instrument, and you run our lighting, video, and sound equipment to create an environment where our guests can clearly hear from God without distraction. Thank you for making our Easter service a huge success!
I spent this morning in Dalton in meetings with Matt and the rest of our staff talking about our multi-site approach to ministry. Matt wrote a great blog about it here.
Our set design guys created a great set this weekend. I will post pictures later this week.
The message this weekend was a great reminder that the resurrection changed EVERYTHING!

Easter

This Sunday is Easter. Please make plans to join us for worship at 10:30am at our Calhoun campus located at the Calhoun Civic Auditorium at 10:30am. We will be serving coffee and doughnuts beginning at 10:00am in our lobby so come a little early and hang out with us. There is not a better opportunity for you to invite your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers to church than this Sunday. You can even send an Evite here!

Random Thursday Thoughts

Leigh and I watched American Idol tonight and hated to see Michael Carver go! I voted for him and would have loved to see him around for a few more weeks. What a stand-up guy.
I am still blown away by what happened last weekend at Disciple Now in Dalton. We took 16 of my favorite students from Calhoun and it was a weekend I will never forget. Several students gave their lives to Christ and some made life-changing decisions.
I am teaching from Nehemiah 5 this Sunday and I can’t wait! I love this passage. Did you know you can send an invite to a someone from our website?
We are collecting non-perishable food for a couple of great food pantries in our community. You can bring the food to church with you the next two Sundays or to our 1st Wednesday Service on April 1st.
Hanging out with our awesome students and student leaders on Sunday nights is rubbing off on me. I am sitting in my den with my MacBook, sending a text message from my Blackberry, writing a blog, and updating my profile on Facebook!! I love technology!
I opened our pool this week and we had our first “fall in” today by one of our daughter’s friends. It is fun to watch the kids going crazy to go jump in a pool that has be 60 degrees. It makes me wish I was a kid again.

Weekly Rundown 3.1.09

Great start to our “Stimulus” series today. My favorite quote from Matt today; “I need to be broken before God can use you”. Are you broken for the people in your life that are far from God? Invite them to church next week.
Next week, we dive into Nehemiah 2. I can’t wait.
We had some technical issues during the service this morning. They are always stressful when they happen but our team jumped into action and fixed the problem.
We had dinner with some friends last night from church and I found out I am a little too competitive.
We spent most of the our Saturday unpacking boxes that are piled up in our garage. We are loving our new house but I am ready to be done with the endless number of boxes. After moving 4 times in 5 years, it great to be “home”.
We have a busy week. Men’s Luncheon tomorrow from 11:30-12:30 (free lunch guys) and 1st Wednesday from 6pm-8pm. I hope to see ya’ll this week!
Student Ministry tonight at 6:30pm!!! It looks like the snow is going to stay away. We are in a series talking about the importance of having Godly friends in our lives. Students, I will see you tonight!

Weekly Rundown 1/26/09

Great service in Calhoun this week. Our “Woven” series has been amazing! God is stretching me through this series from the book of Ruth.
Matt and I got to hang out with several new people to Rock Bridge Calhoun at our Inquires’ Class last week. I love to hang out with people who are fired up about getting involved in to help make Jesus famous in NW Georgia.
We lost a couple of children’s ministry classrooms because the High School we meet in has moved some administrative staff around. We didn’t find out about it until we walked in Sunday morning and our team responded! We have the most dedicated set up that shows up every week to turn high school space into the most incredible children’s ministry space in our area. I am so proud of this team and what they do EVERY week.
We have a new small group starting this Thursday for young couples with or without children. Michael and Emily Haddox are leading this group and they are fired up. If you are not plugged into a group, email me at carll@rockbridge.cc and I will get you connected.
Leigh and I are moving this weekend into a new house! Since going into full-time ministry 5 years ago, we have moved 3 times and have rented several homes. We have found a great house to buy and we cannot be happier to finally have a place to call “home” again. If you don’t have plans Saturday morning and want to help us move, let me know:-)
We are planning a huge Super Bowl Party for our students starting at 5:30pm this Sunday. I’m looking forward to hanging out with dozens of teenagers this Sunday to watch a great game!

What an awesome service this Sunday as we launched a new series called “Woven”!!
Our worship Sunday was simply awesome. Stephen Hare and the band has taken our worship time to a whole new level recently and I am proud of the team.
We hired Donny Holmes this week as our Technical Director. He has been serving in that role from day 1 as a volunteer and I am pumped that he is part of our team. Setting and tearing down our worship environment in a portable church every week with excellence is challenging and our technical team is the best there is. You guys fire me up every Sunday!

Tons of new families in the service Sunday. It is great to see the growth we have experienced in the last several weeks.
I started working out last Friday every morning and I am hurting!
My small group meets tonight at our house and I have not taken our Christmas decorations down yet! Where did December go?
Speaking of our small group, this is the my favorite night of my week. I love my group and the time we have together every Tuesday night. If you are not in a small group (we have several), you are missing out big time! If you are interested in the groups we offer, shoot me an email and I will get you plugged into one.
We are looking at a house in Calhoun and I love and want to buy. Praying for wisdom in this decision because we don’t want to miss God here.

Weekly Rundown 12.8.08

Great day yesterday @ Rock Bridge Calhoun! Stephen and the band got a little country with some classic Christmas songs.
The Christmas season has always been my favorite time of the year, except for the crazy shoppers! I love decorating the house, listening to the same Christmas songs over and over again, eating lots of junk food, and seeing the excitement and anticipation from my girls.
This Thursday is our Snacks with Santa outreach event at our offices in downtown Calhoun from 5pm till 7pm. I cannot wait to see hundreds of people crowd our office space to see Santa.
Leigh and I have not started shopping yet! Every year I tell myself I am going to start early and every year I wait till the last minute.
I recently went to see a Joe Sangl at Newspring to learn how to start a financial counseling ministry. I have been using the free tools he offers at www.josephsangl.com and they have changed my life. I am paying cash for Christmas this year and I am pumped about that!
I am pumped about our Christmas Eve service at the Calhoun Civic Auditorium on December 24th from 5pm till 5:45pm. Start inviting everyone you know now!
If you missed the announcement Sunday, we are collecting new, unwrapped toys for a couple of outstanding ministries in Calhoun. Please bring them to church with you this Sunday and we will deliver them next week.
Lots of great meetings this week to start talking about our plans for 2009. Where did this year go?!?
